MPS Field Workshops

Included in your MPS registration is the opportunity to attend TWO field workshops with instructors of your choice, one on Friday and one on Saturday. For the benefit of all, choose two DIFFERENT instructors. Each workshop limited to 9.
The goal of MPS workshops is to aid you in building a personal process that will serve you when photographing on your own.  It is not necessarily to fill your card with “award-winning” photos, but to fill your mind and heart with skills, knowledge and a CREATIVE PROCESS THAT WORKS FOR YOU.   You will make some fine images, yes, but it’s the skills, friendships, and artful encounters that we really want you to leave with.

Please visit the “OUR TEAM” page and read “how we teach.”

Physical Requirements -  Workshop locations were selected by their subject content and accessibility.  We’ll be walking on and off trails across uneven terrain.  The ground is rocky and sandy.  There may be stream crossings on rocks at some sites.  Vertical rise at all sites is less than 100 feet and walk/hike length is less than one mile.  Pretty mild for out here.  Still, you need to be in shape.  Please do not let your desire to attend the symposium without being in shape spoil the experience for others.  You’ll need adequate walking shoes and some warm layers.  Hiking poles are welcome if you use them.  (No need to buy them just for this event).  The plan is to walk a little, work a lot!

ADDITIONAL NOTES -

* MPS Field Workshops will be held on Friday and Saturday afternoon's from 2PM - dusk.
* You may NOT change your workshop once you have registered.
* All workshops will depart from Moab Valley Inn.  Carpooling is ENCOURAGED!
* Locations are determined by the instructor ahead of time and may vary or change pending weather.
* You are responsible for your own equipment and personal comfort items.
* There are NOT toilets at all locations.  Some instructors will have a portable toilet, but know you'll still be outside with minimal cover!  If you have "issues" you may want to bring your own "Wag-Bag."  Each instructor will have several of them.
* You MUST bring at least 16 oz of water.  Snacks are optional.  Desert climates are dry, meaning you’re losing water without realizing it.  Stay Hydrated!  Workshop leaders will have extra water and are trained in First Aid.
* Be on time and be ready.  MPS strongly suggests you prepare your workshop pack the night before, so after the morning presentations you just grab and go!

LOCATION. LOCATION. LOCATION. Our field workshops will be held almost EXCLUSIVELY on BLM LANDS plus the NFS Warner Lake area and Dead Horse Point State Park .  What?  No Mesa Arch at dawn?  That's right!  If you need an Arches or Canyonlands fix, I suggest you come to town a few days early or stay a few days later and get in line to go there.  Read up on the required timed-entry rules for Arches NP so you're not disappointed.
OUR REASON for visiting local BLM lands is to concentrate on subject matter that makes for better personally meaningful photography.  There are many locations in the Moab area to find the visual material you need to make photographs WITHOUT the distraction of global icons and their crowds, and we'll introduce you to some.  Each workshop is LIMITED TO 9 to ensure quality personal attention.
